adults return
A seminar designed to simplify college and university admission for new and returning working adult students is scheduled at Lord Fairfax Community College on Wednesday evening, May 13, between 6:30 and 7:30.
A feature presentation by Dr. Gary Smith, director of the Bachelor of General Studies at James Madison University, will highlight a special program available through JMU in cooperation with Lord Fairfax Community College. The Bachelor of General Studies program makes available to the adult student an opportunity to complete a university education according to individual needs, personal goals and time schedules.
The program accepts adult students where they are and designs individual studies in terms of where they want to go. This approach has become increasingly popular with adults who are working in jobs, homemakers with limited time, adults who want to move into career fields requiring a college education, and women who are preparing to enter the salaried work force.
These “Getting Into College” seminar sessions feature information on community college and university admissions and transfer procedures. These include referrals for financial aid and counseling services, college catalogs and current schedules of fall classes. Interested new or returning students may arrange for college admission assistance and use of the University-College Transfer Center services. A “hot-line” phone to numerous four-year colleges and universities is available without charge at Lord Fairfax each day.
A new edition of The Transfer Information Bullentin published by the Community College will be given to each person who attends the “Getting Into College” seminar. This publication includes helpful tips on getting into two-year and four-year colleges plus a comparison of costs, programs of study and services available at colleges or universities in and around Virginia.
The “Getting Into College” seminar is open to the public and free of charge. It will be held in the Lecture Hall (Room 40) at the college campus in Middletown. For more information contact the University-College Transfer Center at Lord Fairfax Community College, (703) 869-1120, Ext. 117 or 118.
