Our community extends congratulations to Sean Bennett, son of Commonwealth Attorney and Mrs. John Bennett, who has received a $2,000 National Merit Scholarship. Bennett was among approximately 6000 high school seniors in this year’s competition. He is a senior at Wakefield School in Huntly. The scholarship is supported by merit funds, including grants from corporate and business organizations and the national awards are basic to the annual competition. Winners are selected in every state and all Merit Program finalists are considered for the scholarship. A committee of college admission officers and school counselors select and judge the young men and women as winners who have the strongest combination of scholastic and extracurricular accomplishments.
