Wakefield School in Huntly has been informed that several of its students are the recipients of important academic awards and scholarships.
Seniors Stephen Butler of Marshall and Lisa Larimer of Front Royal have both been named Marshall Hahn Scholars at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute’s College of Engineering. The Hahn Scholarships are among the most prestigious awards offered to a very select number of incoming freshmen at Virginia Tech.
Another senior, Kodwo Mills of Flint Hill and Vienna, has been named an Outstanding Negro Scholar on the basis of his scores on the National Merit Qualifying Test and has been granted a full scholarship to Georgetown University.
Already named a National Merit Scholar and a recipient of the $12,000 Virginia Scholars Award given annually to 45 seniors statewide, Sean Bennett of Boston, Va., has learned that he is a semi-finalist for the most prestigious of all academic honors, the Presidential Scholars Award. In each state of the Union, only one male and one female student will be chosen a 1987 Presidential Scholar.
Meeting recently in Princeton, N. J., the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars drew up its
87.7%
