Pig roast at Castleton

An all-you-can eat pig roast dinner with all the trimmings will be served at the Castleton fire hall on Sunday, May 17, from 2-4 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Historical Society meeting

The Rappahannock Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Friday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Society’s building on Gay St. in Washington. Officers will be elected for the coming year and W. H. Lyne will speak on the history of apples in Rappahannock County. Rappahannock County apples became popular after C. W. Wood sent a i bushel of apples to England to the Queen, and after that apples were sent to England for years. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

The tax act of 1986

Jack B. Nicholas and Steven M. Hicks', CPAs with Young, Nicholas, Mills & Co. in Culpeper, will give a presentation with slides and handouts on how the new tax law will affect you on Monday, May 11, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Child Care and Learning Center’s community room. Among the many topics to be covered will be Impact on Real Estate Investment, New Interest and Expense Rules, New Business Meals and Entertainment Expenses. The fee is $7. Chester Gap honorary lire chief

Girls between the ages of 12 and 18 who wish to compete for the title of Chester Gap Honorary fire chief to represent the Chester Gap VFD in upcoming parades should contact Karen Williams at 635-4673.

This contest is open to any girl in Rappahannock or surrounding counties.

The carnival dates for this year are July 22 through 25. A grand prize of $1,000 will be awarded on July 25.

Little Miss Carnival Queen

contestants needed

Girls between the ages of 6 and 11 who live in Rappahannock or surrounding counties may compete for the Little Miss Carnival Queen of Chester Gap. Anyone interested may contact Karen Williams at 635-4673. Carnival dates are July 22-25.

Aerobic and flexercise classes to begin

A five-week series of aerobic dance classes will begin Tuesday, May 12. Afternoon classes at Flint Hill fire hall are on Tuesdays and Fridays at 4 p.m. Evening classes at Rappahannock Elementary School are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. Class fee is $20 for twice a week or $30 for unlimited attendance.

Flexercise will begin on Monday, May 11. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Rappahannock Elementary. Class fee is $15 for once a week, $20 for twice a week or $30 for unlimited attendance of flexercise and aerobic classes.
