The movie The Name of the nose will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10, at 7:30 p.m. The movie stars Sean Connery, F. Murray Abraham and Christian Slater. A string of bizarre murders shatters the peace and sanctity of a remote 14th-century monastery in this spellbinding tale of death and intrigue. Sean Connery stars as a brilliant monk turned sleuth determined to unravel the monastery’s impenetrable secrets. Based on the international best-seller by Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose vividly recreates the harsh reality of a cruel medieval world while treating viewers to a provocative and stimulating whodunit. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Choral Society spring concert
The Culpeper-Piedmont Choral Society’s annual spring concert will be held May 8 at 8 p.m. at the Culpeper County High School. Music Director Lois Shanks has chosen to trace the history of popular music from Civil War times through the 1960s. Performers include the 46voice chorus (now in its 20th year), soloists, a barbershop quartet, dancer, narrator and instrumentalists.
Baseball game scheduled
Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Central Virginia and Madison County Youth Sports Inc. will host the Virginia Cavaliers and Virginia Tech baseball teams on Sunday, May 10. Game time is 2 p.m. at Booster Park at Madison County High School. Picnic lunches will be served throughout the day, including steak, hamburgers, and hot dogs. "Let’s everyone come out for a exciting day of baseball and good food,” said President J. L. Taylor. All proceeds will benefit Mnditon Youth Sports Inc. Michelle Hartz, a vice-president of Bursan Marsteller, the world’s largest public relations firm, will present the next RAAC Artists’ Forum Seminar Friday, May 15, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Blackwater Homestead. The seminar will cover such topics as working with the media, publicizing your shows, self or business, creating special events, preparing promotional materials and reaching new customers in the region. The fee is $3.
