except one, the girls eased through, although the scores were close. The scores of the doubles matches proved, however, that the Wakefield girls easily outplayed their RMA opponents, largely because of better teamwork.
On April 10, Wakefield went up against Jefferson County and emerged victorious with a final tally of 6-3. Although number one seed Dathy Bentley of Front Royal lost her match 5-8, number two seed Mary McAllister of Stephenson took her match 8-2. Susan Yeaman of Culpeper lost 6-8, but number four seed Terri Tarr of Warrenton won her match 8-1. Heidi Maeyer, number five for the Owls this season, won 8-5, while Elizabeth duFrane lost by the same margin.
Once again, the doubles matches proved that the Lady Owls play better with a partner for moral support. McAllister and Yeaman, number one doubles seed, won 8-0, Bentley andMaeyer took their match 8-2, and Tarr and duFrane were also victorious 8-1.
