The Panthers rallied from a 2-1 deficit going into the top of the seventh. Smith reached base on a Tiger error, and was advanced by a base hit by Walters. Another Brentsville miscue moved both runners up a base, and they scored on a single by Wayne Foster.
Coach Leake praised his sophomore hurler, who he said had “one of his best outings of the season.” Between the Brentsville game and the previous contest, Smith struck out 19 batters while allowing only seven hits.
