The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held a tea honoring the recipients of the chapter’s Good Citizens and History awards.
Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr., state chairman of the DAR’s National Committee DAR Good Citizens, presented each winner of the Good Citizen Award with a pin in recognition of their selection. She told the winners, selected from each of the area’s high schools, that the award is presented to young people who exemplify qualities of good character such as dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
The winner from Rappahannock County High School was Bernard Jenkins III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Jenkins Jr. Wakefield’s recipient was Laura Ellen Dose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Saumel Dose. From Culpeper County High School, the winner was Julie Kramer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kramer, and from Madison High School, Sharon Mallory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mallory.
The History Award is given to students who participate in an essay contest, open to youngsters in the fifth through eighth grades in schools in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Madison counties. This year’s topic was
