grew up with the country look,” says Kathy Krisky, owner of Country Peddler in Herndon. “It has such a homey look and feel. Actually, country is a lifestyle as much as a look. It’s casual, with footstools and quilts and pretty colors. ”

She, too, sees the look

evolving. The majority of customers still like the American country look, but some prefer the florals, lace, chintz and hardwoods of the English look or the whitewashed pines and lighter wood tones of the French influence.

“Some of my customers are college girls doing their dorms in the country look,” says Krisky. Even those with contemporary homes can soften them up with country accents.

Krisky sums up the appeal of country: “At the office we have computers and a fast pace. We want to go home to comfortable, friendly surroundings.” ^
