In addition to the cultivated plants, other members of the brigade will keep their eyes on wildflowers growing throughout the county, snipping some of each variety as they bloom.
They, along with the gardens’ blossoming bounty, will be carefully dried in one of several ways: hung upside-down to air dry, packed in sand, or packed in silica gel. Only years of experience — and frustration — have taught the brigade’s dedicated volunteers which plants are best dried in which medium.
