With the 7-hour time difference, I was a bit exhausted, but at 9 p.m. sharp the news of the day was turned on. This is the equivalent of our 11 o’clock news, although here it is a full hour in length. The stonings and riots taking place on the West Bank and Gaza have the people here very upset.
But what is more disturbing is the fact that the agitators are free to roam the same areas without being picked up by the authorities. What also hurts is these riots are not staged until a news camera is produced, or some media representative is present, and never does the resulting news report show the terrible effects of the stone-throwing on the Israeli troops. These stones are not tiny pebbles; they are used as projectiles and do almost as much damage as the bullets being fired by the Israeli soldiers.
