The Virginia Department of Transportation has opening(s) for Bridge Construction Repair Worker at the Warrenton Residency Office Good position with excellent fringe benefits, consisting of paid hospitalization, sick leave, vacation, holidays, as well as a good retirement system. Applications are available at the Warrenton Highway Residency Office or at the Virginia Employment Commission. Completed applications must be submitted before 5:00 P.M. on April 1,1988. Duties: Performs physically demanding manual labor to build, repair, and maintain bridges. Operates light- and medium-duty equipment to build, repair, and maintain bridges. Cuts and removes deteriorated or damaged materials from bridge structures to prepare for their replacement or repair, using power and hand tools, such as jack hammers, concrete saws, sledgehammers, and shovels. Builds and sets concrete forms for bridges and box culverts. Places, screeds, and finishes concrete to proper texture and grade, and applies curing agents. Places and ties reinforcement steel for bridge decks and retaining walls. Paints steel bridge structures. Qualifications: General knowledge of carpentry skills and use of carpentry tools. Ability to operate pavement breaker, jackhammer, concrete saw, chain saw, rotary hammer. Experience in bridge repair, maintenance, or construction work. Ability to perform heavy physical labor. Job requires working at heights. Must possess a valid Virginia operator’s license. Safety shoes are required in the performance of the above duties.
