Karen Parsons of Persnickety in Fair Oaks thinks that country furnishings convey a sense of our roots—continuation-stability. The early American country look of eight or nine years ago, she says, has given way to a “heritage look” characterized by a classic, finished look in furniture. i
“You have to keep any look ' interesting,” Parsons says. “Bring a freshness to it. If there weren’t new angles on a look, everybody’s house would look the same.”
Big at Persnickety lately are the English country florals and ruffles. This look is a softer interpretation of the English country manor and English cottage emphasis on comfort, she says.
It’s the perfect “soft" look to come home to from the high tech office. The newer pastels are soothing'-colors like raspberry and leaf and teal green are among the most popular.
Parsons’ other tips for updating your country look: use lots of throw pillows—perhaps 20 at a time; botannical prints are big and combine well with plaids and stripes; prints are larger now. ^
