1987 was a year in which the CMH Auxiliary proved itself more than equal to the challenges of a changing healthcare environment. Relocation of the auxiliary lounge to make room for the facilities enhancement project was an inconvenience our auxiliary members accepted in stride. To kick off the year with a fresh perspective on their responsibilities, the auxiliary sponsored a well-attended orientation course for both new and veteran members. Cooperating with the Craft Group of Little Fork Episcopal Church, the auxiliary now donates handmade sock dolls to young patients at CMH as the result of a suggestion by auxilian Betty Holland. Also providing a personal touch is the auxiliary’s new cuddling service for infant patients.
Customized CMH sweatshirts from the auxiliary gift shop were a boost to hospital morale, and there were some appetizing new aromas wafting from the coffee shop this year.
The annual Lights of Love project outshone all others with a record-setting $10,900 donated to build a structural canopy that will protect patients and guests from inclement weather. This amount will be credited to the auxiliary's $100,000 pledge to the facilities enhancement project.
The Auxiliary’s contributions to the hospital throughout the year totaled $47,262, dnd a total of 17,550 hours were worked in the gift shop, coffee shop, thrift shop, reception desk, emergency room, and on hospital floors.
