Two longtime friends of Culpeper Memorial Hospital are honored with departments in their names as the facilities enhancement project takes shape.
The new emergency department will be named for Mrs. Alice H. Strauss of Brandy. Mrs. Strauss was a charter member of the board of trustees, and she and her late husband, Admiral Lewis Strauss, have been strong supporters of the hospital since it opened in 1960. The new ambulatory services, center will bear the name of Giles H. Miller, Jr., of Culpeper. A charter board member, Mr. Miller was chairman of the board.
With these announcements and the opening of the new Coronary/Intensive Care Unit and new Medical Records Department, the hospital’s expectations of 1986 moved toward reality.
Centrally located on the inpatient nursing wing, the Coronary/Intensive Care Unit is equipped with the latest monitors for heart and lung disorders. Experienced staff provide continuous direct observation for critically ill patients.
The Medical Records department moved to the first floor to space planned for the volume and variety of work the department performs today.
These renovations were accomplished by hospital staff; the remaining work is underway by E. Russell Smoot and Son of Culpeper. The original hospital served well, and the newly renovated departments are carefully planned so that they also deliver many years of heavy use.
The AliceH. Strauss Emergency Department, to be located on the west side of the hospital, will efficiently deliver lifesaving care to over 12,000 patients annually.
The Giles H. Miller Ambulatory Services Center will receive and register emergency patients and outpatients.
Following completion of the emergency department, work will begin on the new Surgical Suite which will also include facilities for outpatient surgery. Office space will be constructed near the front entrance to house admittig,
