Faith happens to be Cheri Woodard’s middle name. And “faith to move mountains” is what she and husband Martin had when they set out in business.
Cheri and Martin met at a square dance in Rappahannock County. After getting acquainted, they discovered that they had more than romance in common. Both had a dream of going into business for themselves.
She had a love of herbs, antiques and flowers; he loved natural things; they both loved country life. Together, they gave each other the confidence and support to take the risk, and 11 years ago they established Faith Mountain Herbs and Antiques, now known as The Faith Mountain Company, in bucolic Sperryville, Virginia, near the Blue Ridge Mountains.
“With no money and little experience in retailing,” says Martin, “We knew it would be trial by fire. ” They found a house up for sale on Main Street in Sperryville. It turned out that during the Civil War, the house had been the office of a Dr. Amos, who was said to be
