Stonewall Jackson’s doctor. After “bringing the house into the 20th century,” the Woodards set up their store in the upper and lower front rooms of the house and lived in the back.
In the beginning, in response to a surge of interest in antiques about the time their store opened, they sold antiques which Cheri refinished in a workshop out back. Along with the herbs and herb products, they sold dried flower wreaths, potpourri and some other garden-related items.
Cheri gleaned much of her knowledge about herbs by studying with Mrs. Florence Williamson, “the herb lady of Woodville” (near Sperryville). She learned all about growing and cooking with herbs and about growing and drying flowers. In the spring, Faith Mountain Company grows 250 varieties of herbs nurtured by Cheri’s careful hand. The Woodards say they have one of the largest herb gardens in the East. In addition to their herb garden in back of the store, they also grow ornamental grasses and flowers on a five-acre parcel of land'nearby.
