Sock hop at RCES
There will be a sock hop at Rappahannock County Elementary School auditorium on Friday, Jan. 27 from 7-9 p.m. There will be food, refreshments, music, family fun and giveaway prizes. All proceeds will go to the Special Ed students for the Special Olympics.
'The Manchurian Candidate'
The movie The Manchurian Camiidate will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh and Angela Lansbury. You’ll be mesmerized by the stark terror and agonizing suspense of this all-time favorite political thriller that’s being re-released after 25 years! Based on the best-selling novel, it stars Laurence Harvey as an American GI who is captured and brainwashed during the Korean War. He’s sent back to the United States, where he becomes a pawn in a sinister plot to take over the country. Frank Sinatra gives one of his finest performances as an Army intelligence major who’s determined to stop Harvey's mission. The movie is rated PG-13. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Poetry series at library
The Rappahannock County public library will sponsor “Voices and Visions” an innovative series of discussions and contemporary poetry. The five-part series, which begins on Tuesday, Feb. 21, will focus on William Carlos Williams, T.S. Eliot, Langston Hughes, Elizabeth Bishop and Sylvia Plath. The discussions, led by local scholar Peter Klappert, will consider some of their major works, their very different lives and their place in the culture of their era.
