angina. Nothing is more devastating that the limitations placed on someone after a massive heart attack or stroke. Heart disease is the number on cause of death in Rappahannock County, as well as the United States.

There are certain contributing factors that unfortunately we can’t do anything about; such as on our genetic background. However; there are many more risk factors that can be reduced but often aren’t. These include: cigarette smoking; obesity, inactivity, high fat, and high sodium diets, and the way we handle stress. High blood pressure and high serum cholesterol are also risk factors. The latter two can be different, because frequently they present no outward signs or symptoms.
