Leake says the Panthers must (1) balance out offensively, (2) find consistency, (3) continue to rebound, (4) increase free throw percentage, and (5) decrease numbers of turnovers per game. “So you see, we may be 81 but we have a lot to work on," Leake added. He defended his team’s high number of turnovers, saying a running team will give the ball up now and then. “My philosophy on turnovers is to force more than you commit, and if we do that. I’m happy.”
The jayvees were dropped by Clarke, 44-31, on Friday, but they vented their frustrations before the home crowd on Tuesday, crushing the Junior Red Devils from Miller Academy, 52-30. Eleven players scored against the Devils, led by Paul Hitt with 15 and Kevin Daymude with nine.
The Junior Panthers are 5-4 on the year and 4-3 in district play. "We're still working on becoming a team,” noted Coach Dee Van Horn.
The Panthers' next game is at home against the Manassas Park Cougars on Friday, Jan. 27.
