The Panthers led 17-8 after a three-pointer by Eric Dunn but then went stagnant for well over four minutes, allowing the Devils to cut it to 17-16. Another Dunn bomb got Rappahannock’s boys back on track and they were on top 32-23 at the half.
In the second half Rappahannock had trouble passing the ball but the Red Devils couldn’t capitalize. The closest they came was 44-41 in the final period. Dunn widened the gap, again going the length of the floor and RCHS cruised to a 67-53 win.
The Panthers grabbed 56 caroms and shot 13 of 17 from the foul line, their best showing of the year at the charity stripe. Dunn and Groves shared game-high honors with 17 points, followed by Porter with 12. Groves also had an impressive 11 offensive rebounds from the pointguard spot.
“Anthony and Julian played outstandingly,” said Leake. “It’s nice to see them step forward and be leaders on the court.”
