After skimming a copy of a draft subdivision ordinance from Town Attorney Frank Reynolds and Zoning Administrator John McCarthy, Mr. Wickens said he still found provisions which the commission had requested be deleted.
“We are the seat of the county,” Mr. Wickens agreed. “The county has tightened its ordinances to the point where you can’t do anything but large-lot subdivisions. The county is encouraging development near its towns, and if our ordinances are less prohibitive than the county’s — then at some point the town will experience an explosion of growth.”
The mayor suggested that the proposed ordinance be given to the staff of Planning District 9 for review. “Get some information about other towns, about where they went wrong.” Then, he suggested, try to mesh the ordinance with the county’s ordinances and with the town’s comprehensive plan.
