surface of the track. Coaches Carla Scott and Scott Mellott spent much of the preseason working to prepare the surface for two scheduled meets on April 10 and 12.
School officials delayed the decision to cancel the meets until the morning of April 10. “That was really disappointing to the kids because they came to school prepared for the meet. It’s embarrassing when you can’t compete on your home field” said Mrs. Scott.
Coach Scott says the track was neglected because no one gave it a high priority.
RCHS principal John Toth agreed: “The track is in the shape it’s in because of a lack of time, money, and effort. Our priorities were to the construction project last summer. Rappahannock’s had a new track before but not a new school.”
