the Rappahannock News has serious competition in its attempts , to provide local news coverage. March, 1979 saw the birth of a second in-county weekly, the Rappahannock Times, a slightly-^maller-thantabloid-size paper published by Becky Monger’s seventh grade.

Rappahannock may not be

Texas, but that doesn’t mean that the county lacks great chili cooks. They’ll assemble at Mont Pelier in the F.T. Valley on Sunday, May 20, for “The Great 1984 Chili Cook-Off and Pie and Cookie Contest,” sponsored by the Rappahannock Hunt.

Voters in the town of Washington will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 1, to elect a new mayor, treasurer and five council members for two year terms. On the ballot for mayor is Peter Kramer, former head of the council. Also running without opposition is Bradford R. Fisher, incumbent town treasurer.
