They also cut $5,000 that had been proposed for a car for the building inspector; Mr. McCarthy recommended that cut. They decided to delay building a dog pound at the landfill site and cut the $10,000 proposed for that.
Also cut was $33,000 from the $95,000 proposed for improvements to the landfill site. Mr. McCarthy had recommended that the category be cut $25,000, but Col. Bingham asked, “How about cutting another $8,000?” When Mr. McCarthy said that might be difficult, Col. Bingham said he was trying to save a penny on the tax rate there. The other supervisors went along with the suggestion, agreeing that if the surplus is built back up the county could deal with unexpected costs.
Another $7,148 was cut from “fuel assistance and supplemental,” after hearing from Mr. Cox that he had put the requests for funds from FORE and other agencies that the county usually cut in there.
Finally $3,821 was cut from the line labeled “transfer from the general fund to the library fund.” Mr. McCarthy said the Library Board had told him if the county employed a fully certified librarian the increase in local funds would be only $3,007, not the $6,828 increase listed in the budget for this transfer.
