When spring comes to Virginia,
you mav expect that tulips and
daffodifs aren’t far behind. Visitors to the private gardens open during Historic Garden Week across the state were treated to a generous dose of blooming bulbs and blossoming trees this year as well as to an interesting array of w'ildflowers growing in natural settings.
More than 200 private homes and gardens in Virginia were open to the public during Historic Garden Week tours sponsored by the Garden Club of Virginia. It is a tradition that began in 1929. This year that tradition continued when visitors from near and far visited houses, gardens and historic buildings in 32 localities across the state.
Over the years proceeds from these tours amounting to more than 3.5 million dollars has been raised to restore the grounds and gardens of historic landmarks in Virginia. The gardens at
