Norlyn Bodkin, arboretum director, has described it as a green oasis be- „ tween the development of east Harrisonburg and the JMU campus.

The arboretum is divided into three sections: a forest savannah surrounding a pond, the entrance featuring bulb beds beneath oak and hickory trees, and the back woodland in its natural state.

In addition to providing educatio-’ nal and research opportunities, the arboretum provides a protected environment for endangered plants.. Trails allow the public an opportunity to enjoy the natural setting. *

The arboretum is located on University Boulevard, which • connects East Market Street and Port Repub-* », lie Road. Parking for the ceremony is available in the Convocation Cen- .; ter parking lots, and shuttle buses will provide transportation to and . from the arboretum.

The dedication will be held in the arboretum parking lot.
