pal Bernard Chesshir, who was viceprincipal and athletic director at RCHS in 1987-88, said, “The track was in good enough condition last year to practice on. The reason no home meets were held was for safety. Construction was taking place and we didn’t want to risk the safety of any kids.”
One of the first things the track needs is to be “dragged,” whereby a heavy metal grate is pulled over the ground to loosen dirt and remove bumps. Months ago when Mrs. Scott asked for someone to drag the field, she was told it would be done. After weeks had gone by with no work on the track, she repeated her request. Again, she received assurance the track would be dragged.
According to the coach, after she kept asking, she was finally told the maintenance project had not been completed because the tractor wouldn’t start.
Both coaches put in extra hours doing what they could to improve the staus of the "field. “The (athletic) department told us that we’d have to do it ourselves, and to get the kids to help. I don’t think it should be the students’ responsibility or ours. Be
