“Both teams can expect to place in the jumping events every time out, especially the high jump where we’ve been taking the top three spots,” said Mrs. Scott. In all three meets RCHS’ boys team has swept the high jump, lead by senior Eric Dunn who hovers near the six foot mark. His only competition has come from teammates Stuart Gaines and Daniel Roy. ‘%For the girls, Tess Jamieson has proven a surprise. She took the top spfci in the high jump at Front Royal on Saturday, April 22, against Strasburg and Randolph Macon Academy. “Tess is doing real well, filling a spot RCHS hasn’t had in a few years,” said coach Scott.
Senior Carroll Frye and sophomore Tim Stringfellow have been pushing each other to the top of the district in shot put. In the earlier two meets, the two alternated second and third place. But on April 22, Frye crushed all comers with a throw of 43-feet, 10 3/4 inches, a new school record.
The Panthers are strong in the distance events, too. Michele Early and Matt Eidson can usually be counted on to win the two mile race and finish strong in the one mile.
