The 10-acre subdivision was requested by Roderick and Sheila Sweet. They want to cut off and finance separately a parcel for building a home. The remainder of the 195-acre property, which is partially in an Agriculture zone and partly in a Conservation zone would then have to be developed less densely than one house per 25 acres.
“Aren’t we creating an unusually shaped lot?” Dr. Krebser asked.
Mr. McCarthy noted that the 10acre lot took 400 feet of road frontage out but left 000 feet on one side and 050 feet on the other.
John Clark Jr., Hampton District's representative, said he is an adjoining landowner to the Sweet’s property on Route 022 in Harris Hollow.
"We would rather see them build here than put in one-half mile of road and build right next to the park,” he said. He made the motion to recommend approval providing they can also get Health Department and Virginia Department of Transportation approval; and the addition of an amendment stating that the owners realize this subdivision would restrict the density pf future subdivision.
The Jenkins Mountain Agriculture and Forestal District application contains 385 fewer acres than were in it originally, Mr. McCarthysaid, but it will still be one of the largest in the county with more than 3,500 acres.
