District representative Mike Massie said. “I’d like to fund the total amount Dr. Gangel asked for.” He then suggested that the cut be $7,000 rather than $10,000, which he said would allow the school system to fund up to $1,000 per employee, and the other supervisors went along with that suggestion.
Of the $28,000 cut from operation and maintenance of the school plant, $15,000 was for a dechlorinator for the high school. Dr. Gangel had told the supervisors last Thursday that the State Water Control Board had approved the septic system without requiring a dechlorinator. Other school systems are being required to add these, but since the high school septic system discharges into the ground rather than into a stream, the dechlorinator is not needed, Dr. Gangel explained.
Among other cuts that Dr. Gangel agreed to Monday evening are a covered walkw ay to the mobile units at the elementary school and a Hepa-Vac for asbestos removal.
