the county’s Department of Social Services, its Health Department, the elementary and high schools, the county library, Rappahannock Literacy Volunteers, the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, Hospice of the Rapidan, the Child Care and Learning Center, Rappahannock Retired Teachers, the Rappahannock County Historical Society, and the county Extension office.
Mrs. McNear explained that her job, as the volunteer coordinator for the Rappahannock office of the Rappahannock- Rapidan Community Services Center, headquartered in Culpeper, is to provide a clearinghouse for the volunteers and their agencies.
“A lot of these people would be doing volunteer work anyway,” she said. “But I can match the requirements of the various organizations in the counties with the volunteers whose talents will benefit them the most.”
Most of the requests made to her office, Mrs. McNear said, are for transportation. Those requests usually involve doctors’ appointments in Culpeper, Warrenton and Charlottesville, as well as appointments with various state agencies.
