Fall sports tryouts
The Rappahannock Panthers will begin practice for soccer and girls basketball this month. Coach Renee Leake starts the basketball season with a varisty practice on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 9:30 a.m. to noon at the high school. Junior varsity hopefuls will practice from noon until 2 p.m. The soccer team will begin practices on Monday, Aug. 14 at 9:30 a.m. Coach Richard Dietz said players should ^ bring equipment and be ready to play. Both . coaches noted every athlete must have a completed physical in hand before the will oe allowed to practice. GOP candidates visit
The county's Republican Committee will sponsor a visit by gubernatorial candidate Marshall Coleman, attorney general candidate Joe Benedetti, State Senator Kevin Miller, Delegate Andy Guest and possibly Congressman French . Slaughter. The meeting will be held at the Washington fire hall on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 3-5 p.m. The public is invited to meet and talk with the candidates and listen to . some short stump speeches, said county chairman John Marocchi.
Emergency broadcast test
The first-ever regional test of the Emergency Broadcast System will be held on Monday, Aug. 7. It marks the first time that the states of Region III of the Federal Emergency Management Agency have cooperated in such a broadcast. The test will also include television, cable and wire service networks, which have agreed to also transmit the test activation and rpessage. In Virginia the test will be Coordinated by the state Department of Emergency Services.
