Library awaits
word on grant

The Rappahannock Library Board will have to wait until after the state Library Board meets Sept. 7 to find out if Rappahannock’s application for funds to help construct the new library was granted.
Library Board Chairman William Young and Board member Mary Jamieson traveled to Richmond Saturday, July 21 to present the request to the state board. Rappahannock was one of eight counties with requests for funding. “We did give our presentation; they asked a few questions; they were generally.-supportive, but who knows,” Dr. Young said. !
Dr. Young told other Board members at their regular monthly meeting last Thursday that he had received a letter from the chairman of the architectural board which considered their application saying that the board had reached a consensus on which projects to recommend for approval, but that the applicants would not be notified until the state Library Board acted on its recommendations.
Dr. Young said that a few things might work in Rappahannock’s favor, “the good reputation of this library in the state, and the fact that ours was the only central library applying that had not been previously funded. All the others were for additions or branches, and had previous funding.” He said the board was also impressed with the qualified “certified or certifiable" applicants for the librarian’s job.
