1 he state would fund the 18-mile extension, which would stretch from Route 28 to Leesburg, through bonds to be paid for by toll revenue. If approved, the road extension is expected to be complete and operable by the close of 1991. Mr. Stanley estimates that if the project is built on schedule, it could be built $100 150 million cheaper than it would cost the state to build the extension.
DART Rail is a metro proposal designed to extend the Washington rail system west from Washington along 1-06. A possible route mapped out by Mr. Halaby continues the Metro beyond the Vienna line to the point where Route 28 and 1-66 unite and then veers back toward Vienna.
