Ihe Center is open from 11 a.m. yntil 3 p.m. each Wednesday. Walkins are welcome during those hours, or you may make an appointment by telephone, according to the Center. • Last year the ,Center received a gfant which enabled it to survey area small businesses to determine their educational and training needs for both employees and managers. As a result of the information gained, a series of seminars has been set up for the academic year which begins Aug. 28.
These seminars (and other training programs of the College) are particularly important in light of a labor report which indicates that the 16 to 24 year-old age group is “shrinking.” As a result, according to Jules Lichtenstein, chief of the Applied Policy Branch Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration, “employers will have to reach into the ranks of the less qualified and other groups to get their entry-level workers.” Small businesses hire two-thirds of all new entry-level workers and are, therefore, more likely to hire and have to train less qualified workers.
