the current four-lane section to the Shade Road (Route 622 South).
At that intersection, just west of the Farmers’ Co-op, the alignment of the new lanes will switch to the north of the existing two lanes from that point to the Covington River, at the intersection of Route 622 North at the mouth of Gid Brown Hollow.
In the second phase of the project the alignment of the two new lanes will switch to the south again from the Covington River to just outside Sperryville, Mr. Moon said.
He said the only change had been in shortening the first phase. Instead of ending 0.2 miles east of the Covington River bridge, it will end 1/2 mile east of the bridge under the new plans, he said. This change was made so the transition from four lanes to two lanes at that point could be smoother, he said.
“I don’t think at this stage we could have done it a whole lot faster,” Mr. Moon said.
