Students off to
Latin congress
Twelve students from Wakefield School .will be among 200 delegates from Virginia attending the National Junior Classical League convention at Indiana University in Indiana, Pennsylvania July 29-August 4.
They will be trying to earn top national honors in various competitions; besides the several academic categories, students may compete in “Olympics” in swimming, track, chess, and other areas. At the convention, national officers will be elected for the NJCL, which has 50,000 members in 48 states, all but two of which will be represented.
Marilyn Welch of Basye is the Wakefield group’s sponsor. Students attending from the school will be sixth graders; Jeremy Thorpe of Amissville, Eben Darling of Rixeyville; seventh grade: Diana Fry of Catlett; eighth graders: Matthew Durbin of Warrenton, Stephanie Tomeden of Flint Hill, Rachel Monahan of Boston; ninth grader: Bobbie Ohlinger of Amissville; tenth graders: Bridget Butler of Marshall, Melissa Pagano of Flint Hill and Nancy Chow of Luray.
