Middle Street Gallery artist Joel Hoyer’s mixed-media installation “From a Hiding Place” is part of a two-man exhibition at the Athenaeum in Alexandria. Mr. Hoyer’s polyehromed “Mandala” compositions are likely, according to Washington Post coverage, familiar to dedicated Washington gallerygoers. His complex, geometric assemblages of cowTies, clamshells, and pebbles, sea urchin spines, and other such objects incorporating replicas of the famous “Venus of Willendorf’ fertility figurines have gotten exposure at various group shows this year.
