The Seventh District Congressional race is heating up.
Democratic challenger David M. Smith, unable to draw incumbent Republican D. French Slaughter Jr. into a debate, is carrying around a tape recording of a Slaughter radio interview and debating with that.
“They’re saying that’s sleazy politics, that I’m mudslinging,” Mr. Smith said in an interview on Tuesday. But the mudslinging, he claims, comes from the other side.
