But they finally whittled down the initial order to a manageable size, stocked the shelves and opened the door. The response, Mrs. Parrish said, “was amazing. You wouldn’t believe how much people read around here.”
“We get a lot of people commenting on the selection,” Mrs. Carney said.
“It’s very gratifying,” Mrs. Pierce added. “We can turn any nonreader into a reader.”
One section they are particularly proud of is the selection of classics — most also in stock in hard-to-find hardback. “That was interesting,” Mrs. Carney said, locating the hardback copies. “They are difficult to find; people don’t buy them anymore.”
High school students and others interested in exploring the foundations of Western literature will find in entire wall in the upstairs room ievoted to those works. ‘We carry a complete line of classics: If they’re lead, we’ve got them,” Mrs. Carney aughed.
