Coach Leake has praise for the Eagle team, as well as for her young Panthers. She noted that in her three years as Rappahannock’s coach, this is the closest the Panthers have come to beating Clarke.
Tasha Roy once again led the Panthers’ scoring effort with 19 points, followed by Emma Swatman with seven. The Eagles also beat Rappahannock in the junior varsity contest, 36-12.
Coach Leake predicted Central would be one of the teams to beat in the Bull Run District this year, and Tuesday night proved her estimate correct.
The Falcons drubbed the Panthers, 84-36, in front of a home crowd in Woodstock. The win left Central atop the district standings at 3-0, and 5-0 on the season, and the Panthers still winless in three attempts.
The young Panthers were shellshocked by an aggressive Falcon offense, dropping into an insurmountable 28-2 hole in the first quarter.
The game remained out of reach for the balance of the contest, with turnovers again hurting Rappahannock’s effort. As with the opener against George Mason, the Panthers gave up the ball a lot, committing 46 against Central.
For the third straight game, Tasha Roy led the Panther scoring effort with 12 points. On a bright point, Rappahannock did outrebound the Falcons, 34-29.
The Panther JV also fell to Central by a lop-sided margin, 54-9.
Coach Leake, although disappointed with the team’s record, remained optimistic. She pointed out that the team is young, “and we’re learning as we gc along.”
