The church is presently admitting its failure in the spiritual realm by seeking to enforce its idea of morality through political efforts to outlaw such things as abortion, the teaching of evolution, pornography, etc. Historically it has always turned to the power of the state rather than the power of God in times of moral crisis, with the attendant inquisitions, crusades against its competition, and other abominations in the field of human rights.
I agree that questioning it is important, but experimentation is even more so. For ultimately religion is an individual’s personal relationship with God, and that can be attained only through experience.
