mors that the state would claim there was no cut, because the county might get a refund on contributions to the retirement system. However, he said this refund would come in May or June or possibly in the next 'fiscal year when it could not be used for operating the schools this year.
He said he would recommend to the School Board that it save $9,052 by not replacing a teachers’ aide who has resigned. Another $9,104 could be saved because more Federal funds are expected than had been included in the budget. Some programs could become part of the budget covered by Federal funds.
Dr. Gangel said when the school budget was prepared last spring, it was based on the state’s estimate of an average daily membership of 904, and the enrollment Wednesday was 917. (By the end of the week it had increased to 933.)
Usually the school system continues to gain enrollment throughout the month of September, he said. Dr. Gangel said that he was guessing that the ADM in March, which is used to determine basic state aid, would be 920 to 925. The increased enrollment could also result in increased state aid, but that money also would not be available until very late in the school year.
