I feel much sadness seeing the trees coming down and the earth being pushed around in the name of progress. And I know it has already been decided—the road is not the issue here. It is my wish that all these changes could come without the sense that there is an across-theboard bulldozing as if nothing else mattered or that there isn’t time for anything else to matter.

To the Editor:
On Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9 a.m., we (the United Methodist Women of Amiss ville United Methodist Church) gathered to prepare our sanctuary and grounds for the Advent Season. This being such a joyous event in our Christian year, we were filled with excitement and enthusiasm as we hung the Chris mows on the tree (each a symbol of an event in Christ’s life), strung the lights, tied gold ribbons on the greens with white poinsettias, decorating the age old kerosene lamps and chandelier in the center of our church, placed at exact positions the garland around the balcony, placing the greens and poinsettias around the “Sermon on the Mount” stained glass window behind our pulpit and lastly stationed the Advent wreath representing the four Sundays of preparation leading up to the celebration of the birth of Christ.
All was coming together so perfectly. We rejoiced as w'e viewed our beautiful sanctuary and the symbols
