Sometime between 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2 and 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, someone chose to take the figures and the manger from us, leaving an empty stable with the crude little fence and spotlight still intact.
We don’t know the reason. . .could it be a mischievous or hate act?
Certainly, we thought, no one would take it for display. Our disbelief was astounding. Questions we could not 'answer for an act we could not understand or believe. We, as Christians, realize that at any point in time, by whatever act or acts, our symbols of Christianity can physically be taken from us.
We also know, as Paul writes in Romans 8:37-39, “In all these things we have complete victory through Him who loved us! For 1 am certain that nothing can separate us from His love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the world above nor the world below. There is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Certainly, we would like it returned to us, but through this experience we have been strengthened in our faith, to pray for the person or persons who removed it, that they may be forgiven, and that our God who ultimately is the ruler of all mankind and the world and who knows all things about all of us will fill our hearts with the real joy and peace that comes to us as we receive His gift of love to the world—Christ Jesus.
