“It’s one way of finding out what activities are going on out there,” said correspondent for the Amissville news Cathy Lou Smith.
A native of Haymarket and a newcomer to the county, Mrs. Smith said when her family moved here four years ago she noticed there was no correspondent for the Amissville area and inquired about the position.
“I had been a correspondent” for another newspaper, she explained, and found the social notes column a valuable resource for community information.
“It’s a really neat experience and a great way to meet people,” she said.
A mother of three and a grandmother of seven with anticipation of another in the new year, Mrs. Smith subscribes to several other newspapers for information to add to her column.
“Sometimes you have to go after the news,” she said with laughter, adding she, also, spends time each Monday calling friends and groups for information.
