of our Christian faith a**ve prepared to enter the Advent season. Such joy!

After finishing in the sanctuary around noon we then placed our symbolic stable, cradle and nativity set on the lawn of our church—lit it to lift the spirits of those passers-by on U.S. 211 as well as those of the community to enjoy the beauty and wonder of the season.

It wasn’t an elegant, expensive set, but one that had been used many, many times and in its use had become dull and with many broken places in the plastic contours of the figures. That was no great concern of ours, since we had repainted the entire group—Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, two kings (we had lost one completely through handling over the years), one shepherd, a donkey, a cow, a camel and two lambs.

Our community, as well as we parishioners, enjoyed to the fullest just standing there in wonderment viewing the scene while our carillon played joyful Christmas music each evening at 6 and 8 p.m. Our children and community children drank in the serenity of the scene and the beauty of its promise to each of us.
