The 10th District meeting was convened to elect a candidate to run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Frank R. Wolf, R-lOth, delegates to the national, convention in July, and a representative to the Electoral College.

No candidate was selected to oppose Rep. Wolf, but the district has reserved the option to nominate a candidate later if one steps forward, according to Fauquier Democratic chairman Rich Galecki.

Three of the delegates selected for the national convention are committed to Gov. Clinton, while the fourth is uncommitted. Ray Everett was selected to cast the district's presidential vote in the Electoral College.

Besides that direct benefit, some of the local businesses are benefitting because the workers usually buy their lunches at Baldwins outside Washington or at the Country Cafe in Washington or the Appetite Repair Shop in Sperryville.

Mr. Bywaters reported that the major effect of the recession his company has experienced is the very competitive bidding process. Highway construction bids are as low now as they were 10 years ago, he added.

Charles Haymes of Haymes Brothers, the firm that won the contract for the second part of the project, reports that they have not hired Rappahannock workers. He is still looking for general laborers, carpenters and concrete finishers "who are willing to do hard work.” His employees also buy their handles in the county.

For Rappahannock County, much of the economic news is bad. However, some of it is good, and most people report that they are optimistic that things will eventually get better.
