There is just no place in Rappahannock County like the Flint Hill Public House.
Nowhere else in Rappahannock County serves 22 different Virginia wines, including their house wine.
Nowhere else offers a pub-type atmosphere for an evening drink or appetizer.
And there is nowhere else that offers formal evening dining on one side and comfortable afternoon lunches and dinner meals on the other.
‘There is just noplace else like it,” said owner and new proprietor Robin Koneczny.
Mrs. Koneczny and her husband, Conrad, opened the new restaurant on U.S. 522 in Flint Hill, previously the site of The Schoolhouse Restaurant, on May 5 after a month of redecoration.
The Hume couple, owners of White Eagle Vineyards in Fauquier County, moved to the area four years ago in hopes of opening a gourmet deli shop.
Over a casual dinner conversation with friend and owner of The Schoolhouse Restaurant Sheila O’Brien, a long-term lease was signed.
“It just happened,” said Mr. Koneczny, adding the gourmet deli shop was shifted to the back burner and plans for their new restaurant were put into action.
Familiar with restaurant managment from years consulting and wine distributing wine in D.C. and New York, Mr. Koneczny’s experience with the business came first-hand.
“It’s management by crisis,” he said with a smile.
But crisis isn’t on the menu at The Flint Hill Public House.
With eight persons on the waiting staff, two bartenders, a threeman kitchen staff and a chef, Stephen Canard, with background experience at The Trellis in Williamsburg and The Cherry Hill Inn in New Jersey, the newest dinning establishment in Rappahannock County is offering not only lunch menus and informal dining but also high-quality formal dining.
Upstairs, the restaurant offers one of the only conference facilities in the county.
The long room that stretches across the back of the of the old schoolhouse, once a gallery, now serves a conference room, a dining room for large parties, a reception area for weddings, anniversaries or reunions.
“We have a group of graduates of this school coming in in June,” Mr. Koneczny said, adding they plan to use the room upstairs for their meal—one step away from the dining room downstairs.
For business luncheons, the room offers conference-size tables or separate tables, fax machines and copy services. The room can seat between 20 and 26 persons and offers an auxiliary kitchen to one side.
